2023 Country Swimming Champions – Day 3 Highlights

Greetings from hot and humid Darwin. Day 3 was a scorching hot day but credit to the kids who are handling the conditions so well.

Let’s start with Blake, who continues to amaze us with his talent. Not only did he secure a brilliant 5th place finish in the 50m fly, but he also managed to swim a mind-blowing 200 backstroke, smashing his personal best by a whopping 8.13 seconds. Talk about an outstanding performance!

Bryce, in the 11-12 m 50m fly category, showed true determination and resilience. Despite qualifying in 7th place, he didn’t let the pressure get to him and went on to achieve an incredible 9th place finish, with a personal best time of 1.65 seconds! Moreover, in the boys 9-11 50m breaststroke, he proved himself as a junior age challenger, gracefully taking the 3rd place position.

We can’t talk about champions without mentioning Cooper. This young talent displayed pure excellence in the boys 400m freestyle, finishing 3rd with a remarkable personal best time of 3.42 seconds. Not only that, swam a convincing 50m fly final for the win, and secured a well-deserved 2nd place in the boys 100m freestyle. But what sets Cooper apart is not just his exceptional performance, but also his unwavering support for his fellow teammates, especially the younger ones. He truly embodies the spirit of a champion both in and out of the pool.

Elle proved herself as a force to be reckoned with, qualifying for the finals in both the 50m fly and 100m freestyle. However, it was in the girls 200m backstroke that she truly captivated our attention. Qualifying in 3rd place, she put up a heart-stopping battle in the race, missing out on 3rd place by a mere 0.02 seconds. Nevertheless, she left us in awe with her incredible 3.84-second personal best. Elle’s determination and talent shine brightly, and we can’t wait to see what she achieves in the future.

Grace gave it her all in the hopes of making her first finals appearance in the 11-12 50m fly, falling just short and finishing in 11th place. However, she proved her resilience as the 4th fastest 11-year-old in the competition. Not only did Grace put in a commendable performance in the 100m freestyle, but she also amazed us with another personal best in the fly leg of the ‘boys’ 4x50m Medley relay. Her dedication and determination are truly inspiring, and we have no doubt that she will continue to make waves in the swimming world.

Marley has demonstrated immense strength and determination throughout the competition. In the 400m freestyle, he showcased his endurance and finished an impressive 3rd place, with a remarkable improvement of 2.7 seconds. Additionally, his performance in the 50m fly earned him a respectable 10th place. However, it was in the boys 200m backstroke where Marley left us in awe. He dropped a massive 13.09 seconds from his personal best, securing a stunning 4th place finish. Despite narrowly missing out on a finals appearance in the 100m freestyle, Marley gave it his all and proved himself as a fierce competitor.

Max displayed remarkable growth and skill in his events. Qualifying in 10th place in the 50m fly, he exceeded expectations and finished 9th in the final, achieving a remarkable 3.28-second personal best. Max’s determination and perseverance were evident in the intense conditions of the competition. In the 100m freestyle, he narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals but showed immense grit with his 11th place finish, accompanied by a commendable personal best. Max’s dedication to improvement was truly remarkable.
