2022 Victorian Country Short Course Championships.
The Midlands District together with Ballarat Gold Swimming Club recently hosted Swimming Victoria’s 2022 Short Course Country Championships. After two years of false starts, the event ran from the 30th – 31st of July at the Ballarat Aquatic and lifestyle center and included entries from 36 different regional clubs with a total of 532 individual and relay swimmers.
A highlight on the country calendar, the championships certainly didn’t disappoint with some very competitive action in the pool. Overall, a total of 9 Individual Country Records and 7 Relay Country Records tumbled throughout two exciting days of competition. With Ballarat Gold swimmers Ed and Zoe both setting new country individual age group records in the 100 breaststroke and the 13 & under relay teams breaking both the 4 x 50m Freestyle and Individual Medley relay records.
As well as medals, many swimmers achieved their own personal successes, with top 10 placings, personal best times, state and national qualification times, and even a few club records.
Geelong swimming club continued to prove themselves as a leading club in regional Victoria by winning the Robert (Bob) Carmichael Memorial Trophy, defeating Traralgon who had won the award previously for the past 11 years.
A volunteer army of committee members, parents, siblings, friends and family from all three local Ballarat clubs came together to make this wonderful event possible and we say a very big thank you.
